10 Incredibly Smart Celebrities

    May 11, 2011 at 10:00 am

Most people think of Hollywood celebrities as stupid, self-obsessed idiots, and for the most part they’re right. But there are some incredibly smart celebrities as well. For every Lindsay Lohan, there’s a Harvard graduate Natalie Portman. For every Spencer Pratt, there’s a James Woods with a 180 IQ. Most of the smart celebrities on this list are certified MENSA members, and some of them even have IQ’s that are on par with (or surpass) Stephen Hawking’s 160 IQ. Here are ten incredibly smart celebrities:

    Quentin Tarantino

quentin tarantinoQuentin Tarantino is the closest we have to a modern day auteur film director. He dropped out of high school at the age of 16, and wound up (eventually) directing some of the most infamous cult films of the 1990’s and 2000’s. The smart celebrity also directed Death Proof, which royally sucked. Tarantino claims that his IQ is 160, but it’s never been confirmed. Coming from a guy who puts homages to himself in his own work and has an awkward, attention-stealing cameo in every movie he makes, I’d say this claim is probably not true, but you can’t deny that this high school drop-out at least had the smarts to become the most coveted director in recent Hollywood history, so that’s saying something.

    Lisa Kudrow

lisa kudrowLisa Kudrow is a super smart celebrity who’s been acting for a long time. Although she’s best known for playing ditzy, unintelligent characters in TV shows like Friends and movies like Romi and Michelle’s High School Reunion, Kudrow is actually incredibly intelligent. She received a Bachelor of Sciences degree from Vassar and briefly followed in the footsteps of her father (a doctor) and brother (a neurologist). After 8 years of extensive medical research on headaches, she decided to take a stab at acting, and she’s been doing it ever since. Not bad for an Ivy-league genius.

    Natalie Portman

natalie-portman funny faceNatalie Portman is the poster child for super smart celebrities. This is most likely due to the fact that we watched Natalie grow up. She came to international screen fame at the tender age of 11, when she stole the screen as the innocent child turned ruthless assassin¬† in The Professional. Since then, Natalie has managed to balance her acting career (which never seems to slow down) with a Harvard education. She graduated in 2003 with a degree in psychology, and is also fluent in Hebrew, French, German, Japanese, and Arabic. She’s been published twice in scientific journals and guest lectured a course on terrorism and counterterrorism at Columbia University. No word yet as to why she agreed to do Your Highness (which sucked) and No Strings Attached (which really sucked) in the same year.

    Asia Carerra

Asia-Carrera SFWAsia Carerra is the only adult film star with an IQ of 156. As a child, Asia was a prodigy pianist, and she played at Carnegie Hall twice before she even turned 13. Later in life, this smart celebrity received a full ride scholarship to Rutgers University, but she didn’t graduate because she fell in love with stripping (<— awesome). Since then, she’s appeared in over 250 adult films, and has launched a number of online businesses (mostly related to porn) that have made her a millionaire. Take that, Rutgers!

    Steve Martin

Steve Martin cowboy parenthoodSteve Martin has an IQ of 142. He’s an active MENSA Member, actor, comedian, musician, author, playwright, art collector, and philanthropist. Martin was born in Texas and raised in California. One of his first jobs was working in the magic shop at Disneyland, where he learned to hone his performance skills. After completing a B.A. in Philosophy at Cal State, He went on to become one of the most outrageous, unique, successful, and popular stand up comedians of the 1970’s, and launched into an extensive film career in the 80’s that’s still going strong. During that time, this wickedly smart celebrity wrote a handful of books, collected a lot of artwork, recorded some albums, scribed some plays, and hosted SNL over 15 times.

    Geena Davis

geena-davisGeena Davis learned Swedish by studying in Sweden for a semester in high school. She later graduated from Boston University with a degree in theater and went on to become a MENSA member, thanks to her 140 IQ. Aside from being a super smart celebrity, Geena is also a skilled archer. She also plays piano, flute, drums, and organ. In 2009, Davis was awarded with an honorary Doctorate from Bates college, thanks in part to a study she conducted on gender representation in the media. Do you still think Earth Girls are Easy?

    Jodie Foster

jodi foster sexyJodie Foster has been acting since the age of 3, but she made her mark on Hollywood and solidified her future stardom with her role as a sexy (albeit underaged) prostitute in Martin Scorcese’s Taxi Driver, starring alongside Robert De Niro. Jodie is also a certified genius, boasting an IQ of 132. She graduated as the valedictorian of the only French-speaking high school in Los Angeles and received a scholarship to Yale, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Literature. Aside from acting in dozens upon dozens of feature films over the past 30 years, this smart celebrity also speaks French, German, and Italian, and I’d be willing to bet that she really does have an actual Panic Room in her house. What certified genius wouldn’t?

    Dolph Lundgren

dolph lundgren ivan drago rocky IVAlthough he played the emotionless Russian killing machine Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, Dolph Lundgren is actually Swedish. Before venturing into the world of acting, Dolph completed his undergraduate college studies at the prestigious Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, then received a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to MIT, all before he even stepped in the ring to nearly execute Rocky Balboa. I guess that’s what a 160 IQ will get you.

    Sharon Stone

sharon-stone-basic-instinctYou might remember Sharon Stone as the only reason you bought the movie Basic Instinct on DVD. What you might not know is that she’s a genius. She has an IQ of 154, and she received a full scholarship to the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania after graduating from high school at the age of 15. She’s one of the most well-known and recognized MENSA members, and you should seriously check out that Basic Instinct beaver flash. It’s probably the smartest thing Sharon Stone has ever done.

    James Woods

james_woodsJames Woods might be the smartest man on Earth. He has a recorded IQ of 180. He scored a 1580 on his SAT’s. He has a higher IQ than Albert Einstein and Steven Hawking. So why is James Woods just an actor and not a rocket scientist or a biochemist or something? Because that stuff is hard! Do you know how much work it takes to be a biochemist? It’s like a life-long commitment! Being an actor is easy. All you have to do is show up, say some lines you memorized, and sit in a trailer for the rest of the afternoon while people bring you bottled water and catered meals. Any genius who’s worth half his brain mass in salt would be able to realize that being an actor is the smartest thing you can ever do. Maybe if you work really hard to be that intelligent, someday they might name a Family Guy High School after you, too.

    1. Joe says:

“Jodie is also a certified genius, boasting an IQ of 132.”

Genius IQ is generally considered 140+

    2. Jim Royle says:

Natalie Portman doesn’t exactly speak anything but Hebrew fluently.
Dolph Lungdren also speaks Swedish, English, Spanish, and knows some of other languages. Let alone the fact he is an established martial artist.

    3. Psychomech says:

Where did you get the number for Stephen Hawking’s IQ? Because he doesn’t tell people, but it’s usually stated to be between 200 and 250 by others. 160 is considered the starting point for “genius” level intelligence so people often say his is at least that, but it’s likely higher.

    4. ZagYee says:

Wow that isuber Cool! Gina Davis plays drums? Nice!

    5. Brian Werle says:

hey dumbass, Vasser is isn’t Ivy League

    6. Name says:

Sigma Cum Laude is not a Latin Honor. I believe what you mean is Summa Cum Laude

    7. Name says:

I followed a link to this article from another site. I should have known from the title that I would not see any black or Latino celebrities on this list. Sad yet expected. Will white Americans ever connote being ‘incredibly smart’ with being black or brown?
