See You In Ten speculates on where some of the young, up-and-coming stars of Hollywood will be ten years from now.

    Today’s Subject: Lauren Conrad

How She Got Here: Not sure I’ve even got to explain this but Conrad is known for her role on the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. From that she got her own spin-off series The Hills that followed her personal and professional life as she pursued a career in the fashion industry. Conrad landed an internship at Teen Vogue while filming season one of The Hills. Conrad and her reality show appearances have been credited with improving sales of Teen Vogue. In January 2007, Conrad was named the first official spokesperson of “mark.”, a line created by Avon and marketed toward young women. Her role on The Hills made her a superstar and tabloid favorite (especially when fighting with former friends/cast mates Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt) and led to other TV appearances.

What She Is Doing Now: Conrad took her reality TV fame and parlayed it into a massive career. Conrad released the first novel in her first trilogy, L.A. Candy, in 2009. It became a New York Times Best Seller. The two other books, Sweet Little Lies and Sugar and Spice were released in 2010. She is writing a spinoff of the L.A. Candy series, which will follow the character Madison. Conrad then launched a production company, Blue Eyed Productions, and purchased the rights to turn L.A. Candy into a movie, in which Conrad would work as an executive producer. She is also working on another reality show for MTV which she says will be “much, much different than The Hills.”

See You in Ten: Of course we will. Probably see her in twenty. Possibly one of the only reality show stars in the MTV brand with a brain and the smarts to realize “I better do other things with this huge public platform before it dries up.”
