Tomorrow marks the 33 anniversary of the Three Mile Island Incident. On March 29, 1979, a nuclear reactor at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania suffered the worst nuclear meltdown in American history. The meltdown was caused by a combination of system failures, a valve that was stuck open, allowing coolant to escape, and crappy computer systems with ambiguous warning lights that poorly trained operators couldn’t read correctly. Fortunately, the leaked radiation from the meltdown did not severely affect surrounding residents , but the Three Mile Island meltdown had a profound impact on America’s views toward nuclear energy. In the thirty years since the incident, we haven’t built a single new nuclear power station.Speak Your MindTell us what you're thinking... and oh, if you want a pic to show with your comment, go get a gravatar!
