It’s December now, which means that Santa Claus is coming to town. Some kids take to Santa without a hitch, but other kids are absolutely terrified of the old, magical bearded man. At first, it seems like there’s something wrong with a kid who cries on Santa’s lap. Santa is the guy who brings them toys and goodies on Christmas, so what’s not to like? Upon further investigation, though, a child’s irrational fear of Santa makes perfect sense. If I was a little kid, I’d be nervous about sitting on a weird old bearded man’s lap in public, too. A mall Santa’s only job is to take good photos with kids, and if the kid is crying in the picture, I think that’s a reflection on the quality of Santa you’re working with.
