70 years ago today, Al Capone finally went to prison for tax evasion. Al Capone is the single most notorious crime boss in American history. He’s the actual “Scarface”, and despite everyone in the country knowing that Al Capone was involved in numerous crimes including bribery, robbery, racketeering, smuggling, bootlegging, and murder, the only thing the Feds could pin him for was tax evasion. Al Capone was a criminal mastermind who not only gained fame and notoriety on a national level, but also systematically eliminated his competition and managed to cover his tracks along the way. Capone was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison, including some time at Alcatraz. He was released after 8 years for good behavior. Al Capone also suffered from syphilis and died 8 years after his release from prison.
