Baseball legend Ted Williams is considered the greatest hitter in the history of baseball, and August 28th is an important day in Ted Williams’ baseball career for two reasons. In 1941, Ted Williams and the Boston Red Sox played a double-header against the Philadelphia A’s. Ted got hits in six out of eight trips to bat, boosting his batting average to .406. This is the best batting average that’s ever been recorded in professional baseball, and nobody has beaten it yet. Exactly 19 years later, on August 28, 1960, Ted Williams played his last professional baseball game and hit a home run in his last at-bat in Boston’s Fenway Park. Ted passed away from heart failure in 2002 and his body was cryonically frozen. Ted Williams is generally considered one of the greatest baseball players that ever lived, and he’s statistically the best batter to ever play the game.
