The 10 Best Monkeys in Video Game History
Whether they are entertaining us at circuses, helping us better understand our origins of evolution on earth or protecting King Solomon’s lost diamond mine in the Congo, monkeys play a part in making human life better. So why not take a look back as to how they’ve affected the history of video games? Here now are the top 10 video game monkeys of all time.
from Super Mario 64, Mario Party series
Ukiki is known for one thing: causing mischief. In Super Mario 64, he’ll steal Mario’s hat. In Mario Party 4, he’ll throw bananas on the game board and change your character’s path. It’s not all aggravation on Ukiki’s part, though. Sometimes he reveals extra stars and coins for you… causing someone else’s game to be turned upside down! What a silly monkey!
from Kingdom Hearts II, Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure
Like many monkeys on this list, Rafiki helps your character on your way through his respective video games. He’s a wise old monkey, but don’t let his age and wisdom fool you. In Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure for PS2, he can pull off a 50-50 grind like a mandrill version of Tony Hawk. What a silly looking monkey!
from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past & Link’s Awakening
Kiki seems like a helpful video game monkey. In Link to the Past, Kiki helps Link through the Dark World’s Palace of Darkness, but only after Link gives him rupees. But if you refuse to give Kiki rupees for his services, he will follow you around and you will have to take damage from him. What an a-hole monkey!
from Monkey Hero
He’s a monkey and his name is “Monkey”. He’s featured in a game called Monkey Hero. He plays the role of the monkey hero. ‘Nuff said.
Kingdom Hearts, Alladin
Abu is another small, kleptomaniac monkey on this list, but he exhibits one crucial difference: Abu wears a tiny fez! Hell yeah! This cute lil guy is not only Alladin’s best friend in all of Agrabah, but he also helps you solve puzzles in the Cave of Wonders portion of Kingdom Hearts. Who’s a helpful little guy, huh? You are Abu! You’re my fav… has anyone seen my wrist watch?
Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong Country series
There is a lot of discussion as to whether Diddy Kong is Donkey Kong’s son or nephew but regardless, he has made a name for himself in the video game world. After making his debut in Donkey Kong Country, Diddy has had his own spin-off (Diddy Kong Racing) and has appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Plus, he’s a monkey with a barrel jet-pack and a gun that shoots peanuts. Who can’t love a jet-pack-wearing, peanut gun-toting monkey?
Star Fox series
The archnemesis of the Star Fox crew is the biggest and meanest monkey in the video game universe. Andross is a scientific genius and usually uses his superior technological intellect to create different versions of himself to battle Fox McCloud and company, ranging from a metallic mask face to a giant brain with bulging eyes. But at his core, he’s just a super smart alien monkey genius. Also, I bet he throws his poop. Because he’s a monkey.
Samba de Amigo
Amigo is a sombrero and poncho wearing monkey that loves to samba. Now THAT’S a funky monkey! Amigo is the perfect mascot for a game so silly that it became an arcade sensation in Japan. Plus, he is the only monkey fun enough to make buying a Dreamcast and shaking maracas to Reel Big Fish’s cover of “Take on Me” seem like a great idea.
Super Monkey Ball series
Look! It’s a super cute monkey! And he’s rolling around in little ball! Yay! Forget about Super Monkey Ball being an underrated puzzle game series that has appeared on every console and handheld or online network from 2001 – 2008 or that Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2 has both sold more copies on Gamecube than Metroid Prime 2, Resident Evil Zero and Tales of Symphonia. Just look at the super cute monkey in a ball! Ha-ha! I LOVE MONKEYS<3!
Donkey Kong series
He started as the most hated video game villain ever. Now, he’s beloved by every kid that’s played Smash Bros. His popularity has resurfaced in every decade since his debut. Whether it is through a documentary movie or a conga based rhythm game, Donkey Kong has bridged the video game generation gap like no other, and for that reason he stands atop the list of greatest video game monkeys of all time. But ultimately, he’s still just a dumb monkey.Trending on the WebSpeak Your MindTell us what you're thinking... and oh, if you want a pic to show with your comment, go get a gravatar!
