    Djokovic after winning Wimbledon

For those of you who follow tennis or watched Sportscenter on Sunday you probably saw that Novak Djokovic won his first career Gentleman’s title at the Championships at Wimbledon.  Djokovic defeated then number one in the world Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 to supplant him as number one in the world and win him his second Grand Slam of the season.  His first was won at the Australian open with Djokovic now owning three career Grand Slam titles.  Djokovic failed to take over the number one spot last month when he was beaten by former number one Roger Federer in the semifinals of the French Open.  Djokovic is now 48-1 this season with his only loss coming to Federer.  What has made Djokovic’s season a remarkable one is his outlandish record against the other top players in the world including a 5-0 record against now number two in the world Nadal.

Over the last few years Djokovic has matured significantly since his collapse in the U.S Open finals against Federer in 2007.  Djokovic showed great poise winning the next Grand Slam, the Australian open, in early 2008.  From their Djokovic only reached one Grand Slam final, losing to Nadal at the 2010 U.S. Open, until this season.  I believe that it is now his time to shine.  With his ever growing on court maturity, great skill, and size I think that Djokovic will continue his great season where he will be the favorite to win the U.S.

Open next month.  Expect to see the Djokovic win all of his tournaments along the way and to continue this level of play for the next few years.  My prediction is at the end of his blossoming career he will win a total of 11 Grand Slam singles titles.
