    On this day in 1883 the Brooklyn Bridge was officially opened, and we’re celebrating with a gallery of cool bridge pictures. It only took 14 years and 27 deaths to build John A. Roebling’s Brooklyn Bridge, which stretched over the East River to connect New York and Brooklyn for the first time in history. At the time, the Brooklyn Bridge was the largest suspension bridge ever created, but as you can see from the gallery below, they’ve made some pretty cool bridges over the past 128 years.

      pictures 17, 21, & 25 are the same bridge, just different stages of construction.
