On April 18, 1923 the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees played for the first time at the Yankees new home. Over 74,200 people watched the Yankees defeat the Red Sox, 4–1, in a game that saw Babe Ruth hit the first ever homerun in Yankee Stadium, thereby earning it the nickname “The House That Ruth Built.” The two teams have played each other 2,098 since 1901 and both teams trotted out superstars like Ruth, Gerhig, Dimaggio, Williams, Yastrzemski, Lynn, Martinez and Jeter.

Those are the easy things to remember. The tough thing to remember for fans of either team are the crappy, warm bodies that sometimes wore the uniforms. There have been more bad than good, which is usually the way. Here is a gallery to remember the terrible players to take part in the storied rivalry.
