Leif Garrett Claims ‘Celebrity Rehab’ Producers Asked Him To Use Drugs

I’m pulling back the curtain of Oz. Most reality shows are stage. I know. I know. Sit down. Take a deep breath. The world seems different somehow but it will get better. I promise. Let me kiss your forehead.

Anyway, the cameras can’t always be there to catch everything that goes down on a reality show so producers have ask the cast to “re-enact” some moments for the viewing audience. Seems harmless. Unless a producer allegedly asks a recovering drug addict to use drugs for the benefit of getting it on camera.

Troubled 70’s pop star Leif Garrett has prompted a war of words between himself and the producers of VH1 reality show “Celebrity Rehab” after accusing them of accelerating his 2010 drug relapse for dramatic effect.

The singer, who has been battling drug abuse for years, checked into the latest season of Celebrity Rehab in a bid to kick his habit, but in a new Los Angeles Times interview, Garrett claims producers encouraged him to relapse in a bid to boost ratings.

I’m going to go ahead and call cat turds on that claim. I’m sure producers of reality shows are a shady group but am I really going to believe a relapsing drug addict who is once again blaming someone else for his problems? Nope. Cherry on top of that sundae is the fact the show involves Dr. Drew. Is he going to risk his livelihood and license just to get a couple of minutes of footage of a junkie being a junkie. Unlikely.

Scott Acord, vice president of VH1 Communications, has denied Garrett’s claim, stating, “The show’s producers would never ask anyone to use… PERIOD.”

PERIOD! Good enough for me. But could you say that on camera Scott? Maybe while doing some blow? Great. Thanks a bunch.
