There are so many ways to say what you mean in the English language that the choices can become overwhelming. Just ask anyone who is trying to learn the language from scratch. They’ll tell you that English is maddening because it is the one language where the “rules” are definitely made to be broken.
Now take it to the next level. With the explosion of the Internet and SMS cell phones, an entirely new way of communicating has been adopted by over 80 million people in only the last 20 years or so: Texting.
Texting has sprung up from the very human desire to make something hard a little easier. Only, in the case of English, it’s basically resulted in a brand new language. And one that is even more attractive because, unless you know the ins and outs, is basically like a mystifying secret code.
Well, we don’t want any secrets between us, so I present My Favorite TXT MSG Shortcuts While Stoned to help you navigate your way through this new, secret wordscape.
2B or not 2B: OK. We start off easy. This is one is obvious. But it’s also Shakespeare. Imagine what HE would have done with texting! Then again, it’s just not the same… als pr yrk. i new hm wll… don’t mess with the classics.
