Ten Girls Who Ruled the 90s

As we enter this new decade, we need to reflect on something strange: things in the nineties happened twenty years ago. As we fully compute that depressing fact, we look back on ten ladies who ruled that faraway decade. For these girls, the nineties were the pinnacle, and then… well, we’ll talk about that.

#10 Neve Campbell

We thought Neve Campbell was hot and all too, but Jesus, did she ever take a picture in which her mouth was closed? You don’t look sultry, you look like a mouth-breather.

#9 Emma Bunton

Better known as Baby Spice, Emma’s done alright, although she isn’t doing Posh Spice alright. Really, the most boring Spice Girl gets to be the international icon. Oh well. Emma didn’t have quite so much put on her shoulders. Not like some people. Which brings us to..

#8 Geri Halliwell

ginger-spiceGeri was supposed to be the breakout star of the Spice Girls. She was even one of the first superstars to have naked pictures of her leaked onto the internet, and in the nascent days of the web, that could have meant long-lasting fame. Didn’t happen that way.

#7 Juliette Lewis

juliette-lewisJuliette broke out in the 80s, but it was in the 90’s-decade-defining movies like Cape Fear and Natural Born Killers that she made her mark. Juliette then largely dropped out of the film scene. She’s followed up her 90s stardom with a passable indie band. At least she’s trying.

#6 Jenny McCarthy

jenny-mccarthyThe Singled Out sexpot makes a name for herself now by advocating for groups that attest a causal link between getting vaccinations and autism. But surprise: there is none!

#5 Christy Turlington

christy-turlingtonFormer supermodel Turlington hit her apex in the nineties when the heroin-waif thing was in full swing. The backlash started with Kate Moss, and worked its way to Turlington. She still booked through the aughts, but the 90s were when she really shined.

#4 Cindy Crawford

cindy-crawfordHey, we can’t figure it out either. Probably just had something to do with the fact she couldn’t really act, and models just don’t have a long shelf life if they can’t multitask. But don’t worry, Cindy. Twelve-year-old me will always love you.

#3 Tiffany Amber-Thiessen

tiffani-amber-thiessenFollowing up Shannon Doherty as 90210 resident bitch was tough, but she pulled it off. In my opinion, though, Son-in-Law was her true magnum opus. Pauly Shore just brings out the best in anyone.

#2 Heather Locklear

heather-locklearI loved Melrose Place too, probably because even as a young teenager my crap detector rang loud and clear during every episode (Andrew Shue, a writer? Riiiight.)  Total laugh riot, but one that Locklear owned. Lately, Locklear’s got most her attention from last year’s bizarre DWI.

#1 Jennifer Love Hewitt

jennifer-love-hewittParty of Five’s Jennifer Love Hewitt was huge in the 90s, and not just because of that rack you keep looking up at. She hit a rough patch, but things are actually looking up for Hewitt. After limping through the early part of the aughts in fare like Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, Hewitt has had a reemergence on Ghost Whisperer.

You hear that, previous ladies on the list? You could have a second chance too!
